Bio
I am using this journal as a way to verbally document my art. (http://art.amecusj.com) Sometimes I just need to keep track of what I'm doing because I get lost in the thick of things and a map is always helpful for me.

I have been an artist all my life. Starting with the wonderful broken crayons and packing paper that I used. As a child I placed in every art contest I every entered. Mostly it was my art teachers who entered my art (I guess they wanted some recognition for all their hard work in dealing with such an independent and stubborn child). As a near adult, age 16, I entered two painting in the Northern Virginia Abstract Art Association's Annual Contest. I won 1st place in the under 25 year old section for my piece "ALL" and I won 4th place in minatures/ under 12 inches category for "Getting Out".

Then I went to college...

In 1997, at the request of the art team for Conceptions Southwest I submitted 1 piece called "Christian Woman". It was accepted and was unanimiously voted to be on the cover of the magazine by the art team. The head editor, a devoted Catholic, thought the piece was far too contraversial to be on the cover and single handedly decided to put something else on the front. (A beautiful but boring piece){Which was odd because my art piece was only about me and the way I felt when I considered myself to be a Devoted Christian Woman - I guess the art spoke to her about the uncomfortable aspects of the faith.}

I work in many mediums (sometimes successfully, and sometimes not). My favorite is actually digital art using artist paintbrush software but I also use oils, acrylics, watercolors, and lately I have been experimenting with 3-D aspects using sculptural materials on a painting surface.

Just for fun I like to make t-shirts with extremely colorful designs of altered photographs. Those are available through http://tshirts.amecusj.com I like these because they are beautiful and add beauty to the world, and in my opinion we could use a little extra beauty.

My art falls into 2 basic categories. 1 type just tells stories and captures demons. I find that when I am struggling with something I can just capture it visually and then the issue no longer has a hold on me. These tend to be unpleasant in general but also very relieving. There aren't many (or any) happy art pieces in this category as why would I want to dissipate a happy feeling. I like to keep those.

The second type of art I have is journalistic in nature. This are pieces that I regularly make in my journal. They are day to day expressions of hope, anger, love, sadness, accomplishment, serenity, passion, longing, frustration, excitement, joy and peace.

Now, in 2005, at the age of 26, I feel that it is time to once again show my art publicly but now also have it available for purchase. I feel that the storytelling art is available because other people who feel the same need to also capture their demons. The journal art is available because I am becoming too introverted and emeshed in myself and this is a way for me to be more outgoing and extroverted - To be a part of and Share in the World we live in.
